Welcome to the Outpost Universe!
The Outpost Universe is a fan site devoted to the Sierra released games Outpost 1 and Outpost 2: Divided Destiny.
Feel free to drop by our chatroom for a few games of Outpost 2, or some realtime chat with other fans.
Or perhaps drop by our forums and leave us a message or join in on one of the topics.
Here we have extensive discussions of gameplay, storylines, modding, or the latest patches, releases and projects being worked on.
The Outpost Universe has managed to attract both gamers and programmers alike.
If you're a gamer, than join up with the other gamers for a few quick skirmishes, or perhaps discuss strategy on the forums.
If you're a programmer, or looking to get into programming, then you are sure to find a few like minded people who can share what they know, or help you along.
Or if you're a gamer who is looking for precise descriptions of how Outpost 2 works internally so you can perfectly optimize your next killer strategy, well, we have people that can probably help with that too.
Currently, the Outpost Universe offers a NetFix patch to help people play Outpost 2 over the internet who are behind a home router.
It's not a complete WON replacement, but it's a significant step in the right direction.
We also have a Hamachi network setup for people who would prefer to play over a VPN.
For level designers, we have a mission development kit and map editor if you want to try your hand at making new Outpost 2 levels, but be warned, you pretty much have to be a programmer to use these tools, and you'll need a C++ compiler.
Bug fixes and enhancement patches are also provided for various issues that have cropped up over the years, such as the option button highlighting, screen resolution issues, network gameplay problems, or just wanting to build twice as many units.
We also provide a patched version with the cheats disabled, so you'll never again have to worry about cheats ruining your next online game of Outpost 2.
Please be advised that different versions of Outpost 2 are not compatible with each other in network games, and most people here choose to use the patched version from the download section.
The list of bug fixes and enhancments included is too large to list here, but if you're curious to see what we've done with the game, then check out ChangeLog.txt included in the download package.
So, why not stop by our forums to signup and say "Hello!", and see our current projects.

Website Redesign
Posted by Hooman on Apr 9 2012, 11:25 PM GMT | Comments: 4
Many thanks to TH300 for the recent website re-design. The update went live on Easter Sunday. The menu system has been updated significantly, so now you should be able to actually find things on the site. It's also not so tiny for people with wide screens. Personally, I love the update.
There was still one thing we wanted to change but haven't done yet. We would like an updated image for the top of the page. As none of the admin team are particularly skilled at image design, while some of the users here clearly are, we thought perhaps we should put a challenge to the community to design a new image for the website. We haven't set any selection details or timeline yet, but if multiple people choose to submit images, we may hold a poll, with the winner laying claim to the front page of the website.
To get some ideas started, my opinion of the current image is that it's fairly visually attractive, but much too obviously a picture of Mars. I would prefer something more representative of New Terra. Or perhaps it doesn't have anything to do with New Terra. Perhaps we should have some other image that represents the Outpost Universe.
The current image is 800x150 pixels, and contains the text "The Outpost Universe". This is not a requirement for a replacement image, but I think the replacement should be around the same ballpark for size (not so big that you have to scroll to see content), and placing the website's name in the image would probably allow it to be styled a little better than if the name was added separately.
Who's interested in submitting something?
More Website Updates

A lot of pages on the website still reference IRC, even though the server has been shut down for some time now. I'm slowly changing the references to point to Spark/XMPP pages. Meanwhile, any reference to IRC should be taken as outdated, and some use of Spark should be inferred.
I've updated a few pages, renamed the sub-forum, unpinned it's IRC specific threads, and updated the quick links.
There are still a few pages left to update. If something hasn't been fixed by the end of the weekend, you may assume that I either didn't notice it, or need to be reminded.
Small Website Updates
Posted by Hooman on Mar 9 2012, 02:30 AM GMT | Comments: 0
I've made a few small updates to the website. Most aren't much worth mentioning, but some people may notice I've dropped the "Beta 2" tag from the most recent 1.3.5 download. It's not a new package or anything, I just decided removing the "Beta 2" tag was long overdue.
I also updated the package formats. There are zip and 7z (7-zip) archives available now.
The 7-zip archives have been up for a while, but never really linked to. They have better compression than any other format I've tried. The 7-zip software is free and open source too. They also did a pretty good job with the standard Windows client. It's very easy to install and use.
The other archive formats have been dropped. I didn't see a whole lot of point in maintaining them. They either used commercial or nag-ware archivers, or were somewhat obscure to be using for a Windows program.
